After the craziness of 2020, now is the time to bring a little Zen into your life and home. So how do we do that? Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese practice that is a system of laws considered to govern spatial arrangement and orientation in relation to the flow of energy chi (qi). In other words; feng shui is a practice of arranging your home in a way that leaves it feeling balanced and energised.
Arranging your home to become happier and healthier doesn’t need to be difficult. It might mean moving a few pieces of furniture around or making space in a certain area. Let’s take a look at five easy ways to create good feng shui in your home.
Declutter Your Entry
In feng shui, your entrance way is where energy enters the home, making it the first place to start when re-organising to bring in the good vibes. Many objects tend to build up by the doorway including shoes, umbrellas and debris from the outside. Make space for good energy to flow into your home by clearing up the area, shaking out the mat and ensuring there is plenty of natural light.
Make Windows Sparkle
Windows are the eyes of the home in relation to feng shui. And they relate to us being able to see things clearly in life. Start by cleaning the windows on a regular basis to allow energising sunlight in. Next, move on to your window coverings like the blinds or curtains. Ensure they get a good dust and wash at least once a month.
Check Your Commanding Position
The commanding position in terms of feng shui, relates to how we position ourselves in life. It is the spot furthest from the door which is not in direct line with it. A desk represents our career, the bed represents you and the stove relates to wealth. While you are lying in bed, sitting at your desk or cooking at the stove, you should be able to see the door. Placing yourself in the commanding position in each room, puts you in the best place to receive opportunity and an abundance of positive energy.
Remove Obstacles
Have a think about the path you take through your home each day – are you squeezing past boxes in the hallway or tripping over clothes in the bedroom? These obstacles, while small, can accumulate and cause problems for us in other areas of our life according to feng shui. Take small steps to remove these obstacles, one at a time and make space for good energy to flow.
Bring the Garden Indoors
Plants embody life energy in feng shui, connecting us to nature and bringing a vibrant energy around the home. Just like a fresh, green juice does wonders for our insides, green luscious plants do wonders for the home. Consider bagua (the feng shui energy map) to decide where to place your plants. Key areas to place plants are where you want a welcoming feeling and that receives plenty of natural light.
